It's been an interesting month with the release of both the Federal and State budgets. Unfortunately, the sentiment with which they were delivered indicated that our key economic and financial leaders believe we are still in for a bumpy ride over the coming months and maybe even years. Having said that, we are fortunate that compared to some countries, we have a smaller, more agile economy that can react more quickly to changes - both negative and positive. So as things start to pick up, we should feel the impact sooner!
This of course means being prepared for continual change - as things remain uncertain. Experienced and capable change management professionals are still in demand during these times bringing much needed strategic and tactical support to organisations under pressure.
This week we examine positive ways of dealing with mergers and acquisitions as well as understanding the workplace expectations of the latest generation - Generation F (Facebook)!
We also spend Five Minutes with... Jennifer Long an experienced change management consultant.
We hope you enjoy this month's newsletter.

Mergers and Acquisitions
Mergers and acquisitions continue to provide business with a means of expanding into new markets, sourcing new skills and knowledge, reducing competition and many more benefits. So when a business decides to merge with or buy another business, how much focus is given to the financials considerations and the people related factors? Organisations clearly need to consider the impact of people related risks – the loss of key people, incompatible cultures and a confused employee base are just a few of the possible outcomes of M&A activity. A tailored change management program can result in a successful integration of two organisations. Cameron and Green in their book Making Sense of Change Management (2nd edition, 2009) have taken available research and distilled it into five learning points they consider pivotal for successful M&A activity:
1. Communicate constantly 2. Get the structure right 3. Tackle the cultural issues 4. Keep customers on board 5. Use a clear overall process
