Firstly, the Allegra Consulting team wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Hopefully you have enjoyed a break over the holiday period and are back feeling refreshed and ready to tackle 2009's change management challenges and opportunities! This month we announce the first of many Allegra Consulting seminars and events for 2009. Based on your feedback and suggestions received last year, we are currently finalising a program of forums and other change management learning and community networking opportunities. Assessing organisational change readiness
Behavioural and cultural changes are an integral part of any change initiative. Achieving success and realising benefits from a change project relies on these changes being implemented and embedded. But how can change practitioners and project managers understand and measure an organisations readiness for change?
Designing the change program relies upon a formalised view of the level of readiness of the organisation and impacted employees for the impending change. A formal assessment enables us to understand stakeholder perceptions and their level of commitment to the outcomes of the change, as well as an understanding of their level of change tolerance or indeed weariness. Building on a comprehensive stakeholder analysis as a basis for understanding the target audience, the readiness assessment should provide the foundation of a tailored change management and communications program and support the movement of stakeholders away from resistance to commitment. As well as providing a current view of change readiness, the assessment can be re-done in line with program milestones to continually assess the success of the change program and identify issues or gaps for the program as a whole.
There are a number of possible approaches to a change readiness assessment including stakeholder interviews, facilitated workshops or surveys but the resulting data should be in a format which facilitates a clear picture which can be used as baseline measurement, i.e. a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data.
The change readiness assessment should be regarded as a core component of any change approach and in itself is also an opportunity to build a strong foundation for stakeholder engagement and an inclusive collaborative approach. The perfect start to your change program. Allegra Consulting helps clients to assess change readiness and manage change programs for maximum effectiveness.
